Half The Sky Screening (+ What I wore)

Happy Friday to you all!! I hope all is well. Last night I had the opportunity to attend the screening of Half The Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide at the Little Haiti Cultural Arts Center in Miami Florida. Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn are the author’s of the book, Half The Sky which they have made into a documentary. Kristoff ad WuDunn filmed in ten different countries: Cambodia, Kenya, India, Sierra Leone, Somaliland, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Liberia and the United States.

After watching Half The Sky I have been inspired to reach out to different organizations in my community and make a difference in a young girls life. Just because the resources and laws are different over in the other nine countries doesn’t mean that women in the United States aren’t being effected by the same challenges.

Not only did Kristoff and DuWunn turn their book into a documentary but they asked six actresses that are prominent in Hollywood to travel overseas and witness what women struggle with each and every day. Since most of the areas in the nine countries are poor they aren’t able to do much with the money that they do make. All of the girls and women who the celebrities met with have been either coerced into commercial sex trafficking, prostitution, or suffered from maternal mortality. It is devastating that they don’t have a say on how their bodies are used and/or are sometimes left with no other choice but to partake in awful activity just to make money to feed their children as well as to send them to school.

I don’t want to share all of the details about this documentary because it is set to air on October 1 & 2 at 9pm on channel WPBT2 so make sure to tune in and I will surely be tweeting about on Twitter {Follow Me at SassyWoman25}.

Dress: Bar III via Macys//Heels: Steve Madden//Purse:Rampage//Belt:Forever 21//Watch:Marc by Marc Jacobs//Necklaces: Betsy Johnson & Forever 21//Earrings:Gifted

The attire for this event was semi-dressy so I opted for this wrap dress by one of my favorite brands Bar III. I refer to it as my Confetti dress! My belt came from Forever 21 and it has been my go-to accessory when I wear black pieces. The dress was filled with beige, orange, purple, and black colors so I chose to wear my ruffled nude heels. They are comfortable to wear and not to high. I completed my look with my purple Rampage purse and gold accessories.

Before the screening took place WPBT2 hosted a reception which included complimentary drinks and hors d’oeuvre’s. Also, I was placed in the category of Media Press and I was provided with reserved seating for the screening. I’ve never had my name on a chair before at an event so it was very exciting to see my name in print! My fellow blogger Deidre of Frugal Flirty n Fab was in attendance as well and were seated one row from each other.

It was such a pleasure to hear the lovely Gabrielle Union eloquently speak about her experiences over in Vietnam. I know that she is extremely passionate about this project and by any means possible she hoped to be able to give women the opportunity to change how women issues are handled around the world. Gabrielle and Dwayne Wade have adopted one of the ladies over in Vietnam and are going to make sure that she gets all of the necessary resources and guidance so she can finish school. How amazing is that? Many people feel as though you aren’t making a difference because you are only helping one person but we have to start somewhere.

Overall, the event was great and I being apart of press I was given a folder with valuable information about the film. I plan to tune into WPBT2 on Monday and Tuesday of next week and I hope that you will do the same!

Have a wonderful day and weekend! Thanks for stopping by ✌.

Miami Spice Luncheon @ City Hall the Restaurant

Good Morning Beautiful People!! I hope everyone’s weekend was great. The highlight of my weekend was co-hosting a Miami Spice Ladies Luncheon with my friend Shilesa of Hey Girlfriend Online. Miami Spice is an event which occurs 2 months out of the year and over 200 restaurants participate to showcase the very best of Miami cuisine! Last year was my first time participating in this fun promotion and I knew that I wanted to do it again. The restaurant that everyone voted for was City Hall the Restaurant and the food was absolutely delicious. City Hall is definitely on my top 5 places to eat at in Miami and I can’t wait to go back!

Shilesa and I invited our girlfriends and we wanted to make sure that since not every knew each other that we make it as comfortable as possible for our guests. We provided an ice breaker (which went really well), a game and a raffle ticket which gave our guests two chances to win either a Hey Girlfriend t-shirt or Survival Kit. The winner of the game won two pairs of earrings which I selected. You can never go wrong with a great venue, food, and your girlfriends. Check out the pictures below ↓.

Lashara of Love Child Essentials was the winner of the Hey Girlfriend Survival Kit which included: hand sanitzer, body wash, lip gloss, nail polish & file, chocolate kisses, and much more! Enjoy!

For my appetizer I indulged in the seafood and andouille gumbo with rice which was delicious.

For my main course I chose the Pan Crispy Mahi Mahi which came with roasted vegetable Quinoa, wilted spinach and maui onion buerre blanc. Another tasty dish!

My fellow blogger Deidre of Frugal Flirty n Fab selected the Meatloaf with mashed potatoes, green beans, cripsy onions and homemade gravy.

Love these ladies to pieces! (L to R) Moi, Dekishea of The Fabb District, PR woman Donnet, Dionne of The Prissy Shopper and the lovely socialite Iris!

Dress To Kill Boutique (+ What I wore)

Good Morning Lovelies!! It has been a while since I have attended local events so I was uber excited to attend two events this past weekend. The lovely Cortnie of Style Lust Pages & Owner of the gorgeous and original Love, Cortnie clutch bags invited myself as well as a few other Florida bloggers to attend the grand opening of the Dress To Kill Boutique (DTK) located in Miami, Florida. Attending the grand opening of any new business is always a joy and I was also thrilled about getting the opportunity to meet Cortnie who I have chatted with via twitter from time to time.

Top: Forever 21 (Purchase here, $19.80)⎥ Tank top rolled up: Forever 21⎥ High Waisted Shorts: Urban Outfitters⎥ Heels: Kelsi Dagger ⎥ Purse: Beall’s Outlet, $24.99Watch: Marc by Marc Jacobs (Similar) ⎥ Earrings: Kreative Kreations⎥ Bracelets: Assortment

On the actual day of the event I headed to the mall to pick up some new make-up and I decided to pay a visit to Forever 21 to see if they had any new items that I could wear to the boutique opening. It took me all of five minutes to browse the store and find this neon polka dot button up blouse. I loved the color and I felt as though I could wear this top a couple of times during the fall and winter season. The bottom I chose to pair the top with is my never been worn, high waisted shorts that I purchased at Urban Outfitters about two years ago. I am so glad that I kept them because they surely came in handy. To complete my look, I wore my favorite black platform peep toe heels!

Doing what I do Best…SHOP! Lol

Antonia Decquir-Louissant, the owner of Dress To Kill Boutique features appealing, unique, and pocket friendly clothing. In the midst of all the excitement, I wasn’t able to really take my time and shop the way I had planned but I definitely plan to visit again in the near future.

The cupcakes were delicious as well as the wine. The entire staff of DTK continuously made sure all guests were taken care of. That is always a plus in my book!

The accessories were so pretty and colorful!

If you follow me on Instagram {SassyWoman25}, then I’m sure you saw me posting a couple of pictures while I was at the event. It was such a pleasure to meet Love and Hip Hop’s Emily B. She was so sweet and fun. Oh and she is just as beautiful in person as she looks on television.

California Vacation Pt. III

Top, Pants,Earrings,& Scarf:XXI//Sandals:Target//Purse:Banana Republic//Sunnies:Target//Watch:Dolce & Gabbana//Bracelets:Assortment

Happy Tuesday lovelies!!! I am finally back in sunny south Florida and I started back to work yesterday. School starts next Monday so myself as well as other teachers are busy decorating our classrooms, attending staff meetings and catching up with our co-workers in our spare time. But before I place my California vacation pictures into a personal photo album, I wanted to share with you all a few pictures that I snapped while visiting Napa Valley this past Friday.

The weather in Napa was the complete opposite of San Francisco temperature as you can see by my light clothing attire. I knew prior to heading to Napa that the weather would be warmer so I opted for a pair of dark coral skinny leg linen pants. These pants were purchased about a month back and I knew they would be perfect for my California vacation. I am a fan of linen pants during the spring and summer time. Linen pants are light and can be paired with a number of tops which is a win win for me! I threw on the scarf to include another color to my look which as you can see I later placed in my purse because of the Napa heat.

My wrap around straw bag is one my favorite purchases this summer! I love and adore Banana Republic’s Factory store in Sawgrass and Dolphin Mall. They always have amazing pieces at amazing prices. Two months ago I noticed this purse and it was originally priced at $49.99. I had just purchased a bigger straw bag two weeks prior so I didn’t feel the need to have two at the time. But I still loved the purse and I knew that BR has great sales so I decided to wait and purchase it at a discounted price. Sure enough I went in about two weeks ago and the purse was in the clearance section marked down to $14.99…SOLD!! It is spacious and the yellow trim on the sides is an added bonus.

California Vacation Part II

Good Morning ASW readers!! I hope everyone’s day got off to a great start! It’s quite early over here on the west coast so my day hasn’t really started yet. In a few hours my family and I will be leaving San Francisco to head over to Napa Valley better known as Wine Country. This will be my first time traveling to Napa so I am curious to see what this city looks like. Before I head out to my next destination I would like to show you pictures from the tour that we were on yesterday morning and afternoon.

The photo above ↑ is the house where the movie Mrs. Doubtfire was taped. (I love that movie)

Top:Target//Pants:Free People//Jacket:Loehmann’s//Boots:OLD//Earrings:Miami Accessory shop//Purse:Forest and Culver (Here)

As I informed you all yesterday, it is quite chilly in the bay area so I have no choice but to bundle up. Looking back over my outfit, I notice that I am wearing earth tones which are my absolute favorite. They are easy to mix and compliment my skin pretty well. I love my Free People cargo pants. I purchased them this past spring and I have worn this pair on many occasions. My boots are 6 years old…yea I know I probably need to retire them but they are my favorite because they are easy to put on and they go with so many of my fall and winter outfits.

A few of you may know that I have won several giveaways in the past year. About three months ago, I entered a giveaway to win a Hobo handbag valued at $378 courtesy of Purse Pixie and Forest & Culver. Shortly after entering the contest, I received an email congratulating me on becoming the new owner of the bag. I was ecstatic. This is the biggest item that I have won so far and its perfect for the fall and winter season. The purse is quite spacious and has various compartments for small items that I want to keep separate and not misplace. I am very thankful for this purse and this bag will be shown plenty of times in the next couple of months.

At the de Young Museum!

Golden Gate Bridge!
My sister and I near the Golden Gate Bridge! It was very windy and cold so we had to snap pictures quickly and head back to the tour bus.

The Alcatraz Prison which was open from 1934-1963.

My tasty ceasar salad and clam chowder bread bowl.

Before entering Alcatraz cell housing

Can you spot my sister and mom in this photo? Everyone is listening to an audio tour guide which allows you to view the prison in an organized fashion. My father on the other hand roamed the prison at his own leisure, not following the instructions given by the audio tour guide.

Could you imagine living in this prison, in a cold cell, every single night with no access to the outside world? Some of the actual inmates who helped tell the story informed us that in the many years living in this prison no family members came to visit them or sent any letters.

I’m standing outside of an Alcatraz facility and the San Francisco Bay skyline is directly behind me. Isn’t it beautiful?

Well folks, I hope you all have a great Thursday and thanks for stopping by.

*ASW’s Entrepreneur Spotlight will be postponed until next Friday!

California Vacation Part I

Good Morning lovely readers!! I hope everyone has had a great week so far! As you all know my family and I headed to San Francisco this past Monday for a little vacation before school starts back. I have taken a couple of pictures since I’ve been here and I plan to take more today since we are going on a three hour tour which includes us traveling to about six different tourist attractions. Below are pictures that I took Monday and Tuesday. As you can see the weather here is the complete opposite of Miami, Florida lol. Sweaters, boots, scarves are a must in San Francisco. Enjoy ↓

I was so excited about wearing my lime green sweater that I recently purchased from Express. It is so comfortable and it kept me warm! I bought this headband at Forever 21 a few weeks ago and I thought it would be perfect for those days when I don’t feel like wearing my hair done and want to spice up my simple pony tail. I absolutely love and adore wearing boots. They are so comfortable and fun to wear! These Nine West boots were purchased about two years ago and I have gotten a lot of use out of them. They keep my legs very warm since they are knee length boots.

My family enjoying their Ghirardelli Ice cream!! LOL!

Well it is pretty early over in San Fran so I plan to get started with my day and I hope that you all enjoy your Wednesday! Thanks for stopping by ✌.

An Oldie but a Goodie

Dress: Express (OLD)//Shoes: Nine West (OLD)//Earrings: Forever 21/Bracelets: Assortment

Good Morning Lovelies!! I hope everyone had a sensational weekend. I headed to Orlando this past weekend to attend a bridal shower  & bachelorette party for one of my friends, Jennifer of Chic Desire. It was so great to  see her and many others that I hadn’t seen in a while. The bride to be looked amazing and I can’t wait to see her in her wedding gown this coming weekend!

Anywho, the brides sister who hosted the shower asked all of the ladies to wear sundresses so I peeped in my closet to see if I had any dresses worthy of wearing to the shower and I surely came across this dress. I purchased this tie dyed dress from Express about 4 years ago and this is my second time wearing it lol. It is of course still in excellent shape since it hadn’t been worn in years. It was kind of snug due to the fact that when I purchased it I was much smaller than I am now but it all worked out.

The bride to be & I {Picture I took for Instagram-Follow me, SassyWoman25}

I found these earrings at Forever 21 the day before the trip and they matched my outfit perfectly!! I love them and I will surely get some more use out of these. They are so colorful and fun. Perfect for the summer time!

I hope you all have a wonderful week and thanks so much for stopping by ✌.

Earth Tones & Friends

Good Morning ASW Readers!! It’s Friday Woot Woot! So last night I stopped by the Ricochet bar in Midtown Miami to see how the Fashion Bloggers Event was going and to socialize a bit with my local blogger friends. Back in March I attended the Spring Edition of FBDIB and I had a blast. Check out the post here!

When I put together my outfit I noticed that I was wearing earth tones which happen to compliment my skin tone quite well.  I wanted to look jazzy but still be casual so I paired this pleated strapless dress with a vest that I have had for over 6 years. It is my absolute favorite and I don’t think that I will ever depart with it. By looking at the pictures, you aren’t able to see the pleats in my dress but boy were they giving me trouble while driving to the event because of my seatbelt. I was so nervous that the seatbelt would put a dent into the dress and change the entire look of it. Thank God it all worked out!

Dress: XXI (Here it is)//Vest & Clutch: Wet Seal (old)//Heels: Diba (old)//Necklace: Chico’s//Earrings: Charlotte Russe//Bracelet: Miami Accessory store

My shoes are super old! I think I purchased these back in my college days at DSW in Tampa! They are pretty comfortable and I love the different colors that the shoe has in it. Not to mention they are pretty comfortable to wear!

Young, Wild, and Free was asked to walk in the Fashion Show! I couldn’t stay the whole time but I know she did an awesome job. Love her outfit!!

Fashion designer, Ayeisha of ASMI stopped by and we chatted a bit. She will be featured on ASW soon ladies so be on the look out for her feature!

*In two weeks we will get  back to our regularly scheduled ASW’s Entrepreneur Spotlight.

I hope you all have a fantastic Friday and a lovely weekend. Thanks for stopping by ✌.
